About Henry Aryan MD
Henry Aryan, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Aryan specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of complex spinal disorders and neurospinal oncology at UCSF Medical Center in the departments of Neurosurgery and Orthopedics. An expert in robotic-guided spine surgery and other minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr. Aryan has practicing and operating privileges at Saint Agnes Medical Center and Fresno Surgical Hospital.
Dr. Aryan is currently a Neurosurgical Spine Specialist at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, where he performs routine and complex spinal surgeries, including artificial disc replacements, revision spine surgery, and robotic-guided surgeries to treat spine trauma, spinal deformity, and scoliosis. As an expert in neuroscience, Aryan holds several device patents, has written several textbooks and medical abstracts, and has given diverse oral presentations pertaining to spine and brain disorders, cementing his credibility as a highly regarded neurosurgeon whose work in correcting spinal deformities and treating spinal trauma has been groundbreaking.
A California native, Dr. Aryan is board-certified and holds fellowships with the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Association of Neurologic Surgeons (FAANS). He is also a Fellow in Spinal Oncology and Complex Spinal Reconstruction and has a litany of professional affiliations that highlight his dedication to medical excellence and patient care.
EDUCATION
Henry Aryan began his educational journey at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He graduated with numerous honors, including Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and the Cybernetics Honors Award. He was also a Division 1 Ranked Athlete in the 110m Hurdles. Dr. Aryan received his Bachelor of Science in Cybernetics from UCLA, with highest honors, a path of medical study that integrates advancements in digital communications with computer modeling and automatic control systems (robotics) and their applications in the medical field.
Dr. Aryan received his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine. He then attended the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for both his general surgical internship and his 7-year residency in neurosurgery. Dr. Aryan continues to have a close professional affiliation with the University of California academic system, serving as a Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at UCSF. While his primary focus is on spinal disorders, particularly revision spine surgery, he continues to consult and treat some patients with brain and cranial neurosurgical disorders.
Dr. Aryan graduated from the University of California with academic honors and received recognition from the Cybernetics Society. He continued to excel in grad school, receiving the Dean’s Office Medical Research Fellowship and the College of Medicine Dean’s Service Award while at UC Irvine.
CAREER
For nearly two decades, Dr. Henry Aryan has been a neurosurgeon at Sierra Pacific Orthopedic Center in Fresno, CA, performing routine and complex spine surgeries. He has performed more complex spine surgeries than any other physician in the Central Valley. His skills include placing medical devices, such as artificial discs, to relieve severe back pain and restore motion and stability in the spine. He applies his years of neurosurgical expertise in diagnosing and removing spinal tumors using spinal radiosurgery, treating degenerative spine disease and spinal deformities, and performing revision spine surgeries to correct previous operations.
Dr. Aryan’s expertise in using robotic surgery techniques with great accuracy and skill has won him industry-wide acclaim. These minimally invasive procedures reduce error, decrease operation timeframes, and lessen post-operative pain. His extensive skills in patient care and surgical expertise have been widely recognized and rewarded, with Dr. Aryan receiving many industry accolades, including:

Dr. Aryan is passionate about educating the next generation of brain and spine surgeons. He serves as Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at UCSF, teaching medical students within the medical school’s clinical settings. Aryan has also conducted medical research in association with UCSF faculty, doctorate students, and colleagues that has been peer-reviewed and published in a wide range of medical and scientific journals.

Dr. Henry Aryan served on the Board of Trustees at Fresno Surgical Hospital from 2013 to 2020 and is currently on the Board of Managers at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics of Fresno. He is past Chief of Neurosurgery at Saint Agnes Medical Center and past President of the Medical Staff at Fresno Surgical Hospital.

CHARITY
Henry Aryan is a Member of Los Medicos Voladores (The Flying Doctors), a medical professional group dedicated to improving the health of the people of Mexico and Central America by providing free health care to rural villages. He is also a member of the International Neurosurgical Children’s Association (INCA), a group of doctors that provides surgical and non-surgical care for children with neurologic disorders in South America. His volunteer work has taken him to Peru, Ukraine, and El Salvador. Much of this work is published in peer-reviewed journals (see PubMed for a current list of publications).
In addition to being a team consulting physician for Fresno State University’s athletic department, he is also the spine and head injury consulting physician for Fresno State’s athletic department. Dr. Aryan has given back to society by sharing his expertise and research on brain and spine injuries and disorders in many medical publications, patents, and books.
